Amlagam fillings emit mercury. Mercury enriches in liver, kidney and central nerve system and is toxic to enzymes. As old amalgam fillings do not stabilise the tooth structure any more and also may present an esthetic problem, at least old amalgam fillings should better be replaced by composits or dental ceramic.
