Periodontology

The basis: healthy gums.

Gingivitis (superficial inflammation of the gums) or periodontitis (inflammatory decrease of the periodontium, i.e. the bone surrounding the teeth) can occur due to plaque, concretes and special bacteria and can be enhanced certain medicaments, the individual immune response, stress and smoking and other cofactors.

Without therapy, periodontitis may lead to tooth loss. Additionally, it can affect general health by causing a bacteraemia, meaning bacteria and bacterial toxins as well as inflammatory mediators may spread.

There is also an aesthetic component: Healthy gums show an aesthetic picture, the “pink aesthetic”.
