- Periodontitis increases the risk of cerebral stroke.
- Diabetes increases the risk of periodontitis and wound infection following dental surgery (Link: Schweizer Diabestesgesellschaft).
- Healthy teeth and gums are especially important for people suffering impaired immune response or susceptibility to endocarditis. Dental treatment, if bacteraemia is likely, requires antibiosis.
